Thrifting Finds

Not to busy to stop in at a few of my favorite thrift stores.

Ciara, my grand daughter and I popped in to Restore-Habitat for Humanity. Found some 3" black numbers, folding tape measure, brass window locks that I'm going to use as peg hooks on a weathered board. An awesome stool, a rather short floor lamp wood spindle and a cast iron base, and 4 plywood headstones for Halloween (no pics).

MaKenna (she's the older sister to Ciara)and I stopped in at the Salvation Army this morning. Got a galvanized bait bucket, a corner shelf and a small stand that I'm going to paint and display necklaces on.  Two perfume flasks the silver looking one sort of looks like mercury glass and a 1966 April plate from West Germany

After I closed the shop, Kenna and I stopped in to South Coast Thrift (a Hospice store).  First off, before you ever go in the building they had a basket of padded hangers for 10 cents each.  So of course I got all of them (20 for two bucks). I found a few doily's, and an old wood handled file with bits of red paint still attached. Some house numbers (really been finding a lot of these in different sizes and materials) and these hinges and hasps that have a fluer de lis design. And finally a really cool headboard. The headboard is going white and I'm going to use it in the guest room.

But the best find came from the Salvation Army.  I found this almost 200 year old book.

I  would like to send a big thank you to Carol over  here at The Polka Dot Closet. Changing to Firefox worked. With her kind help I'm able to upload my pictures in compose instead of HTML, which did strange things~~~and I'm back in blogland!!!

Double Dressing

Two pillow slips are better than one.  At least in this case.

I got these pretty Battenberg Lace trimmed pillow slips a few years ago while out junking. I tried them out but the lack of coverage kind of put me off. So I stuck them in them in the linen chest and forgot all about them.

These cuties I bought in Eugene, when I was visiting my sister.  Stuck them in the linen chest also.

Well this fall I was sorting through the chest and separating out the pillow slips into there very own wicker storage case, when I came back across them again. I tried them on a pillow, but still didn't care for how they looked.  So I put them off to the side to maybe make into something else.  I also put the other cuties off to the side to put on when I re-made the bed. (I had sort of forgot I had them),have you ever done that???

While I was finishing up I was also thinking what I could make with the lace slips. I had been wanting do to up a couple of ticking throw pillows, how would they look with a cozy, lace shrug~~~hmmm~~~cut a bit off, maybe gather up the sides, then have the lace part smooth out and have a good bit of vertical ticking showing at the bottom.  That is when inspiration struck!  I put the other longer slip on a pillow then I pulled the Battenberg Lace slips over that and voila!!!

I know these aren't real Battenberg Lace, they are just inexpensive knock-offs that happen to be to short to cover the pillow adequately. But until I can find the real thing I'll be using these. I really like how they look when paired together. But you know, I also want to try out the lace shrugged ticking idea also.

I don't normally (as in never) iron my bed linens, so, I wonder how it's going to feel sleeping on pressed sheets?

Between Blogger not letting me upload normally and my camera acting up and having to switch to the camera on my phone the pics are a bit off. Does anyone know what's up with Blogger?

SEASON 3 DOWNTON ABBEY

The wait is almost over!  Season 3 of DOWNTON ABBEY airs tomorrow~~~Sunday, January, 6th at 9:00PM on PBS Masterpiece Theater.

I can't wait to see what is going to happen this year. The Roaring Twenties and social change are upon us!!!

How long will Mr. Bates stay in prison? What trials and tribulations will his and Anna's marriage go through before he is found innocent and released?

Will Shirley McLain add a new sparkle and twist to the plot?

Will this be MAGGIE SMITH's last year? I certainly hope not, I so enjoy her character as Lady Violet.

Will there be wedding bells for Lady Mary and Mathew? I think not for Miss Mary seems to only want Mathew when it's convienient for her.

Ahhhh~~~the first grand baby is on the way~~~Will papa Crawley welcome her back into the fold? I don't think he will have much choice~~~Lady Cora tends to get her way.

Happy Hunting and Gathering~~~~and Enjoying Downton Abbey
