Going to Market

To Marshfield Vintage Market that is~~~

Well I've taken the plunge and committed to doing a show.  Were having our very own antique/collectible/vintage market right here in Coos Bay, Oregon, August 16 & 17.  I'm so excited to be participating in this 1st annual event. 

Thea Snyder of Haven Decor has done a great job organizing this event.   She designed the flyer below and I think it's just brilliant!!!

I bet your asking yourself why it's being billed Marshfield Vintage Market?  Well once upon a time Coos Bay was Marshfield. I think it's a very cool nod to the past, especially since this is an antique/vintage market.

I showed you a vintage wooden hanger (which I collect) from a Marshfield dry cleaners that I found at a local estate sale here in this post.

I've been working non-stop trying to get pieces done for the show. I got this twin size bed done...and it sold Saturday afternoon!!!

 Was going to number the drawers 1, 2, 3 on this cute little sewing chest that I converted to a night stand...well it sold Monday morning!

I was going to use the buffet/hutch that I did this post about..but it sold a couple of days after I decided to do the show! It's went to a very good home clear across the state in Walowa, Oregon. Thanks Nyoda!!!

So far ten pieces of furniture that I had earmarked for the show have sold...all in the space of two weeks! I'm thrilled about the sales but I'm also worried that I'm not going to have enough pieces to fill up my space. YIKES!!!

I've got to do more of these up...last two I had on hand...you guessed it... SOLD today! In fact I'll be taking some hangers and signs that I showed you along with the bent and stamped forks from this post.

Shhh! I'm taking the ironing board and Le Jardin screen that I stenciled in this post.

 

Finished this mid century metal chair this weekend. Cleaned and sealed the finish as I found it and added a burlap coffee sack as upholstery.  It's going nowhere near the shop! In fact I'm hoarding a whole bunch of stuff in the garage!!! (like I didn't before, lol)!

I'll try to keep you posted on my progress. But with only 10 days left I don't know if I'll even have time to sleep!  You can also keep tabs and get up-to-date information on the facebook page.

It's Been One Year

Well, it's been one year since I "Hung the Sign" did this post (my most viewed post to-date) and opened my brick and mortar shop, Paris Flea Market at 769 Virginia Avenue in North Bend, Oregon

It's been a very busy year for me.  The shop takes a lot of my time and energy, and what's left I devote to my grand children.

I take photos to do a post...but seem to never get further than that. With that said please excuse some of these photos...I have a difficult time getting a sharp and clear image (took over 200 digitals for this post alone) , hence, one of the problems of frequent posting.

And now for the photo tour......

Got two new signs for outside...this very cool VINTAGE CHIC sign and another that hangs from the awning (no pics). Already had the one to the left.

I absolutely adore this white nativity set!

I use newer NOT VINTAGE patterns for my tissue paper to wrap items in, the response is fantastic...every one notices, they even call out to others there with to come over and see.  I use to use black and cream toile tissue paper that cost a small fortune...and no one ever noticed. I very much like "keeping it simple".

I have a map of France on a cork board and have all my customers that have been to France put a pin in there favorite place.  Surprising how many people have just been to Paris.  A few people spied England and Italy and pinned locals there!!!

I had the Nutcracker with snow flakes painted on my window for the holiday season. I've always enjoyed store windows that were painted for the holidays....

Swap Meet Finds

ALWAYS TAKE A CLOSER LOOK

Stopped in at the Green Spot, a local swap meet. It's inside at an old re-purposed department store so they have room for about two dozen vendors, but it's probably closer to 50 different vendors that sell . You never know which vendors will show up and be selling. So it's a lot of fun to go in and look around. The Green Spot itself even has a little cafe and this week they were serving Philly Beef & Cheese sandwiches. YUM! 

  

So without further ado here are the lovelies I brought home with me.

Isn't this little porcelain tea set the most darling thing you ever seen~~~A tea pot, creamer, covered sugar, 5 cups and 4 saucers. Made in Bavaria, W. Germany by Eberthal. I paid $10.00 for the set. It is so pretty with the dainty little flowers and it's petite size.   I knew the granddaughters would love this for our tea parties.  In fact Ciara, my youngest granddaughter has already laid claim to it. Someday she will sit down to tea with her grand children and another child will lay claim to the set.

 This little reverse painted picture on convex glass was actually my first purchase at $4.00. This one has a colored scene background. I usually re-sale these, but I'm quite taken with this one so I think It's a keeper.

 

 My last find was this metal clad suitcase in perfect condition inside and out and no musty smell!!!  When I spotted it the vendor had a bunch of knit hats displayed in it, so I asked her if it was for sale, she said "yes, it's $13.00" and took the hats out so I could get a better look. I hadn't  realized when I first saw it that it was metal, in fact this is a first for me.  It's the perfect size to hold my crafting supplies at 10" X 18" X 6 1/2" deep.  When I first spotted this I had assumed it was a knock-off , these little suitcases were imported and sold by the gazillions a few years back. So always take a second, closer look, and like me you might just find a little jem.

The vendor told me that she remembered her grandmother using this case all the time when she traveled. She must have taken great care with it.
