Dog Blanket?

I found this beautiful crochet coverlet in the dog blanket bin at Salvation Army.  I pulled it out and could not believe it - there was nothing wrong that a good washing wouldn't take care of!!! Dog blankets cost $1.00. I know the thrift stores get these in by the dozens and need to move them quickly. I have crochet large pieces before - it's a lot of time and work. So I felt craft bound to save it...

And this one was so pretty!!!

It fits a twin bed wonderfully well, I searched long and hard to find the "just right" combination of bedskirts - I want them to show!!!  The head board was just recently revamped and added. There's not enough room to have a foot board. The night stand was originally a sewing cabinet.

Each perfect square has three flowers (roses) with leaves - blue, lavender, and of course rose. I envy the person who crafted this - I never was able to achieve two squares the same size - so hat's off to you for a crochet coverlet well done!!!









 



Underneath is a queen duvet that I stuffed a full size feather bed insert into. I tuck the overage under the mattress. It has the prettiest little blue flowers on it.

And underneath all of that there is yet another feather bed that you sleep on, This room tends to get a bit chilly in the winter. Yes I have central heating, but this is an old house~~~

I've finally been able to put up this large round mirror with the etched basket and flowers from the 1940's.  This mirror has a razor sharp edge! The grand kids are old enough to understand that this is just for looks and looking into - no touching...

The "eyebrow" is a (gold) resin piece from the "80's" that I transformed with paint. It hooks over the top as if it were made to do just that! 

See those shelves and petite framed pictures? I don't paint every thing white - just most things.















I also transformed two gold angels for each end of the bed, because some times the kids sleep toe to toe.







I used my powder blush to tint there little
checks and arms and a soft rubbing of light
gold on there wings and hair.

The walls are painted Lavender Mist and the trim is Chantilly lace both by Benjamin Moore.







 

Over the bed hangs a grey chandelier entwined with beaded greenery. The bed sits in an alcove and this is the back wall. I hung a large GOLD frame with a pair of GOLD metal string instruments and a GOLD framed oval mirror.

Before the remodel, this was a closet (not this big - about one third this size, I stole three very tiny closets to make the alcove).  Well, on the top shelf of that closet was a very old violin in a case. This violin had been handed down to the eldest child for generations. I use to love looking at it.

So the metal violin on the wall is in honor of that memory. Some day, when I'm out junking, I will come across a real one that strikes a cord in my heart!

 A selection of comfy pillows turns this bed into a VERY COZY DAYBED. The pillow on the left was a surprise when I took an embroidered cover off to launder. An insert sewn out of old unbleached flour sacks! Of course I had to keep it.

And when you hop out of bed your feet land on this beautiful swan, velvet wall hanging, with very tattered edges - that I use for a rug.  And so concludes the tale of the "Dog Blanket"....

It's Been One Year

Well, it's been one year since I "Hung the Sign" did this post (my most viewed post to-date) and opened my brick and mortar shop, Paris Flea Market at 769 Virginia Avenue in North Bend, Oregon

It's been a very busy year for me.  The shop takes a lot of my time and energy, and what's left I devote to my grand children.

I take photos to do a post...but seem to never get further than that. With that said please excuse some of these photos...I have a difficult time getting a sharp and clear image (took over 200 digitals for this post alone) , hence, one of the problems of frequent posting.

And now for the photo tour......

Got two new signs for outside...this very cool VINTAGE CHIC sign and another that hangs from the awning (no pics). Already had the one to the left.

I absolutely adore this white nativity set!

I use newer NOT VINTAGE patterns for my tissue paper to wrap items in, the response is fantastic...every one notices, they even call out to others there with to come over and see.  I use to use black and cream toile tissue paper that cost a small fortune...and no one ever noticed. I very much like "keeping it simple".

I have a map of France on a cork board and have all my customers that have been to France put a pin in there favorite place.  Surprising how many people have just been to Paris.  A few people spied England and Italy and pinned locals there!!!

I had the Nutcracker with snow flakes painted on my window for the holiday season. I've always enjoyed store windows that were painted for the holidays....

Double Dressing

Two pillow slips are better than one.  At least in this case.

I got these pretty Battenberg Lace trimmed pillow slips a few years ago while out junking. I tried them out but the lack of coverage kind of put me off. So I stuck them in them in the linen chest and forgot all about them.

These cuties I bought in Eugene, when I was visiting my sister.  Stuck them in the linen chest also.

Well this fall I was sorting through the chest and separating out the pillow slips into there very own wicker storage case, when I came back across them again. I tried them on a pillow, but still didn't care for how they looked.  So I put them off to the side to maybe make into something else.  I also put the other cuties off to the side to put on when I re-made the bed. (I had sort of forgot I had them),have you ever done that???

While I was finishing up I was also thinking what I could make with the lace slips. I had been wanting do to up a couple of ticking throw pillows, how would they look with a cozy,lace shrug~~~hmmm~~~cut a bit off, maybe gather up the sides, then have the lace part smooth out and have a good bit of vertical ticking showing at the bottom.  That is when inspiration struck!  I put the other longer slip on a pillow then I pulled the Battenberg Lace slips over that and voila!!!

I know these aren't real Battenberg Lace, they are just inexpensive knock-offs that happen to be to short to cover the pillow adequately. But until I can find the real thing I'll be using these. I really like how they look when paired together. But you know, I also want to try out the lace shrugged ticking idea also.


I don't normally (as in never) iron my bed linens, so, I wonder how it's going to feel sleeping on pressed sheets?

Between Blogger not letting me upload normally and my camera acting up and having to switch to the camera on my phone the pics are a bit off. Does anyone know what's up with Blogger?
