Going to Market

To Marshfield Vintage Market that is~~~

Well I've taken the plunge and committed to doing a show.  Were having our very own antique/collectible/vintage market right here in Coos Bay, Oregon, August 16 & 17.  I'm so excited to be participating in this 1st annual event. 

Thea Snyder of Haven Decor has done a great job organizing this event.   She designed the flyer below and I think it's just brilliant!!!

I bet your asking yourself why it's being billed Marshfield Vintage Market?  Well once upon a time Coos Bay was Marshfield. I think it's a very cool nod to the past, especially since this is an antique/vintage market.

I showed you a vintage wooden hanger (which I collect) from a Marshfield dry cleaners that I found at a local estate sale here in this post.

I've been working non-stop trying to get pieces done for the show. I got this twin size bed done...and it sold Saturday afternoon!!!

 Was going to number the drawers 1, 2, 3 on this cute little sewing chest that I converted to a night stand...well it sold Monday morning!

I was going to use the buffet/hutch that I did this post about..but it sold a couple of days after I decided to do the show! It's went to a very good home clear across the state in Walowa, Oregon. Thanks Nyoda!!!

So far ten pieces of furniture that I had earmarked for the show have sold...all in the space of two weeks! I'm thrilled about the sales but I'm also worried that I'm not going to have enough pieces to fill up my space. YIKES!!!

I've got to do more of these up...last two I had on hand...you guessed it... SOLD today! In fact I'll be taking some hangers and signs that I showed you along with the bent and stamped forks from this post.

Shhh! I'm taking the ironing board and Le Jardin screen that I stenciled in this post.

 

Finished this mid century metal chair this weekend. Cleaned and sealed the finish as I found it and added a burlap coffee sack as upholstery.  It's going nowhere near the shop! In fact I'm hoarding a whole bunch of stuff in the garage!!! (like I didn't before, lol)!

I'll try to keep you posted on my progress. But with only 10 days left I don't know if I'll even have time to sleep!  You can also keep tabs and get up-to-date information on the facebook page.

Been Busy Creating

I've been ever so busy lately! Here are a few thing that I've gotten done for the shop~~~

These are the drawer blanks that I told you about on my last post "A Few Recent Finds". Used my "French" stencils~~~

Time for a map~~~

 

I've had this clock forever, the original finish had faded to an ugly color on about half of it.  So I re-faced it with a French map that I antiqued, just Mod Podged it on~~~ 

Hang on what do we have here?

 This is a project that I also want to do for my closet.  I'm in line behind the shop!!!

 

 This applique was a hollow resin ornament~~~

This is a vintage hanger from the Hotel Mark Hopkins on Nob Hill in San Francisco.  I had initially set this one aside but accidentally painted the back side first, usually don't paint the advertisement hangers~~~

 These are wooden appliques I picked up at Michael's a couple of years ago. I've just about used all of them up~~~

Let the light sing~~~

 Wrapped the candles in layers of aged and torn music sheets, burlap, lace, and ribbon. The little hearts are metal buttons! Just tied them on with a thread of burlap~~~

 The crystal candlesticks and glass coasters (these had a fluer de lis in the middle) are just epoxied together with E-6000. I've seen several examples of these on Pinterest. I like them because you can use the chunkier candles in them!!!

 This was a plain ecru colored, 7", bell shade. The collar at the top is actually a lace collar off a blouse, I also used part of the blouse for the flower along with a scrap of lace and an old clip earring that had no mate. The pearls took three tries to finally get them attached the way I wanted. They were just a continuous string that I hand sewed on. The first time I didn't like the placement, the second time they were too short and the last time I didn't cut to length until I was absolutely sure that is where I wanted them.~~~ 

Spaghetti forks?

 No, these aren't spaghetti forks! But I did bend them~~~

 Even stamped them~~~

 And added some vintage photo's~~~

 

 I did a few of these up for Christmas to sale in the shop and never got to show you. First off I stamped them with my 1/4" metal punches, then moved on to forming the stand. These can be a bit difficult to bend, you need to use an old cloth or something to protect them from the pliers and so you don't scar them all up (and you know how I know this). I had to sand mine lightly to remove the little dents. You have to be patient it takes a bit to get the tines all level, some tines are longer so you have to form differently. I also put a slight backward bend right under the last stamped letter. It catches the light and makes your lettering stand out better. I've already sold the ones I stamped with LOVE and STORY.  STORY was suppose to be SISTER, but I laid my punches out incorrectly and I stamped ST, which became STORY~~~

Estate Sale Loot

I've been to four Estate Sales lately.  Mostly they were just A LOT of  NOTHING.  Three of them were hoarders and it wasn't pretty!!! I did luck out and found a couple of furniture pieces. It's been really difficult to find furniture items in the area.

This chair was one of the finds.  I really like the legs and arms are always a nice feature.  The piece of upholstery fabric came from a great estate sale in Coquille.That's what I'll be using to recover the seat.  I'm painting the chair light blue/grey color.

I also got a bunch of wooden coat hangers...this one is from a cleaners here in Coos Bay, it closed in the late 60's.  Marshfield was the name of our town until the mid 30's. I collect old wood advertising hangers.

 

Found this frame at another estate sale, also got a couple of books and a few ornaments for a Christmas project.  My daughter picked up a four post faux wood grain metal bed...it's really awesome no pic it's already at her house.

This is just a hodge podge of all four sales~~~I finally got a decent enough day to pull the stuff out of the garage a take some pictures.

I got 5 old wooden screens. I'm going to do a stencil project with them.

A couple of galvanized buckets, some old insulators, and several boxes of glass jars (didn't take them all out). that brown leather and silver studded piece is an old dog collar.

Got this old wooden ironing board and the drawer in front to do stencil projects on also.

A rusty chicken feeder and a galvanized mop bucket that someone has painted yellow, it has a cool old handle that still show some of it's red paint.

There were some smalls that I've already taken to the shop...and most have already sold.

And lastly here is a round wooden card table with a 1923 Hoboken, New Jersey patent date.I picked this piece up in  Myrtle Point, at Tickled Pink, a small antiques shop. The gal there does her furniture up in mostly white with pink roses, all but a few pieces were tagged "sold". She does a fantastic job. This little table was a piece one of her vendors had.

 
Usually I see square folding table so I'm really liking this round one with the very cool turned legs!!!  This is going in the shop.  I'll be recovering four metal chairs to display with it in my window. Pics and a Post to follow.
